Advice - I have two full builds 90% good to go.

Hey all,

I have two full builds sitting around right now and I want to use one as a very rudimentary HTPC. I mean I don’t want to worry about decoding, I don’t want to worry about DVR. I’ll do the DVR with my set-top box, I just want to send the video to my computer, then out to my TV.

I want to do Component -> (whatever converter) -> Computer as my set top box detects anything besides a standard TV coming out of the HDMI as bad and won’t play. :( Should be find with Component though.

Two systems:
AMD X2 5000+ or Intel C2D E2160
MSI 8800GT or Sapphire HD4650
Both have 2GB 800MHz DDR2
Whichever one I choose will get a 500GB SATA

Questions:
1) AMD vs Intel?
Both are overkill for 1080p I’m sure. Although I will most likely do some ‘light’ gaming on the screen from my bed, just to relax. The C2D will excel for this - am I wrong?

2) 8800GT vs HD4650
I am sure the 8800GT would outdo the HD4650 in terms of gaming performance, but that is very much a secondary concern.

3) HD4650 Audio
I am leaning towards the HD4650 for the HTPC mainly because of the built in audio that was in another HD I had a while ago, a 3450.

Am I wrong? It’d also be no problem to just connect to on board sound to the SPDIF on the video card if there’s no onboard GPU sound, and it would transfer through the HDMI, correct?

4) Wireless Keyboard/Mouse with decent range
Would I need to go Bluetooth for this? How much would I expect to spend for something decent?

5) Tuner Card
Don’t need anything fancy - just something that can take video in and display it on the screen. Don’t need decoding, don’t need a remote. Definitely need either native component or component -> whatever input, preferably included, since getting converters with shipping and whatnot can be pricey. Needs to handle HDMI.

Thanks guys. :)

Edit: Any advice on the cheapest way to do multiple inputs to the computer? Would be nice to hook my 360 up to the computer as well - plus fun to record games directly. ;)
