i5 budget buy - Editing and Gaming combo?
Even though some intended uses for this system are HD Video editing and rendering, in Vegas, I don’t really do that much to justify spending nearly double for the i7 920 with a good board.
I intend to game on it but will go with a single graphics card setup. I might even start out with a 9800GT for now to keep the cost down.
Here is what I have so far:
- 2 x 2GB OCZ Plat Edition DDR3 1333MHz Dual Channel memory AR
- Cooler Master Storm Scout ATX Mid Tower Computer Case = AR
- OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ600MXSP 600W Power Supply = AR
- Windows 7 Professional = .edu Offer
I have a monitor, keyboard and DVD burner.
Some have suggested the WD Black Caviar drive to me. I will probably go with that.
I feel this i5 combo gave me more for my money than the i7 920 was going to. I know I’d have more sheer power the other way but it was nearly impossible to walk away from this deal. I figure if I went the wrong way here I can always convert this to a new HTPC and build an i9 Editing/Rendering/Gaming powerhouse using some of the cash I saved sometime next year.
What do you think?
