Microsoft unveiled it’s new controller for the Xbox 360 console at the E3 exhibition in Los Angeles yesterday.

The controller project is called “project natal” and it is a completely hands free control system.

Project Natal will also feature face recognition and motion sensors that will give the user an unrivalled experiance when playing games.

Steven Spielberg attended the launch of Project Natal. Mr Spielberg stated “the main barrier stopping people getting into video games was the complexity of a games controller,” and that Natal was “a whole new world”.

Mr Speilberg also stated that Natal offered new opportunities for game development.

“The video games industry has not allowed us the opportunity to cry, because we were too busy putting our adrenalin rush into the controller, or wherever we swing our arm with a Wii controller to get a result,” he said.

Peter Molyneux demonstrated how natral recognises faces and facial expressions to detiermine the mood a player was in so the game could react accordingly.

The details of project Natal had already been leaked to the press 3 weeks ago when documents were released by the US patent office. However, most people believed that this patent was for a concept similar to Nintendo’s Wii console.

The future of gaming is certianly getting more interesting, with all 3 major companies pushing each other very hard when it comes to technical breakthrough’s.
