Think my HDD just died? :(

Posted on May 18th, 2009 by admin in Recent Blog Entries, it support w1
Well over the last few months its been pretty crappy, slow read/write speeds, weird clicky noises coming frmo my Samsung Spinpoint 500gb HDD. today i went to reset my pc and when it loaded back on, just said Hard drive error.

Since i dualboot vista with linux ubuntu i had grub on there. It loads up grub and tells me to chose my option, but the vista/windows and all the linux options do the same thing (for about 5 seconds theres just this . flashing then it says something like Unknown string hard drive error or something.

I swapped the HDD with an older 640gb WD hard drive, that gave a different error and just said HARD DRIVE FAILURE PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM DISK

But then again, im pretty sure the 640GB was broken to begin with, so i didn’t expect that to work.

Cant use an old IDE hdd because i only have 1 IDE slot on my mobo, which is being used by my dvd drive (and i dont have any usb cd readers)

help?? this is probably the first time i dont know what to do, usually i always manage something but now im out of options :( cant get another HDD for awhile. (yes i tried another sata data & power cable.)

Demigod Questions

Posted on May 18th, 2009 by admin in Recent Blog Entries, it support w1
I got this game 2 days ago, and i love playing it, but i cant get the online to work because when i click “create account”, the game minimizes and nothing happens, no windows pop up or anything. Where can i make an account? t

And another thing is ill be playing a single player tournament or skirmish, and ill get to like level 11 and the game ends, thus resetting my level back to 1. Theres no way you can just keep leveling your character?

Palit vs. Gainward

Posted on May 18th, 2009 by admin in Recent Blog Entries, it support w1
Hi there. I’m currently tossing up between two cards. Palit GeForce GTX 260+ 896MB Sonic Edition and the Gainward GTX260+ 896MB Golden Sample. Which of these has better warranty and a better reputation?

Thanks.

[Project] Upgrading Andy’s rig

Posted on May 18th, 2009 by admin in Recent Blog Entries, it support w1
Time for some upgrades, and I don’t mean the CPU or mainboard because that will come later. The budget is €520 and here is what I came up with so far:

Antec P183

I picked this case because it has a good bang for buck factor. I don’t need a fancy looking case, just something that stops the dust and dampens the sound.

Scythe S-Flex 1200RPM

Going to add this as case fan.

8-Pin PSU extender

To make sure my 8-pin cable is long enough.

Belkin cable ties

To tie some cables together (I can use these inside the case right?).

TRUE fan holder

I’m using the fan clips now, then saw this fan holder. It seems nice.

Asus Xonar D1 Low-profile

The D1 doesn’t require external power, so no extra cable mess!

XFX HD4770

Yes, it’s this version of the card, not the one with the ugly cooler.

Creative Gigaworks T3 2.1

Finally some quality speakers. Optical told me to pick these over the Logitech Z-2300’s.

Total: €508 - money left €12.

I have a memory 32bit 64 bit question

Posted on May 18th, 2009 by admin in Recent Blog Entries, it support w1
I have windows xp home edition 32bit and my computer can recognize 3 gigs of ram. i want to get dual channel pc2-6400 2 gig sticks so i would have a total of 4 gigs. Dual channel, two 2 gig sticks. now my computer will only see 3 of it so does that mean it will “break” the dual channel? will it hurt performance? or should i get dual channel 2 total gigs and just get a nother 1 gig stick to make it 3? sorry if you get confused lol.
