A lady in America has been fined the equivalent of 1.2 million pounds for illegal file sharing.  this is the case ever regarding file sharing in the US.

Jammie Thomas-Rasset was ruled to have violated music copyright and ordered to pay damages to the record industry. She was accused of sharing 24 songs from various artists and although the first trial ended without a verdict, the second was successful.

Jammie Thomas-Rasset was quoted as saying that the fine was “kind of ridiculous”.

The recording industry said that the various companies prosecuting are willing for an out of court settlement for a much smaller amount. Jammie has not confirmed if she plans to appeal against the case. She was accused of uploaded 1700 songs to Kazaa before the website went legal.

She has described herself as a “huge music fan”.
