WRT54GS speed issues

The other day I went ahead and got the WRT54GS for at Newegg since it was too cheap to pass up. I figured the increased speed over my old wireless b card would be worthwhile. While it is faster, I’m having a bit of a problem. On my wired connection, my download speed tests at 16Mbit (as advertised), but my wireless g connection only gets up to about 10.5Mbit/s. These are from multiple tests done through speedtest.net. Aside from moving closer to the router or checking card drivers/router firmware, is there anything else I can do to get to the full 16 meg connection? My other half has had her laptop right next to my computer and maxed it out. I’m getting a 70% strength signal and the Linksys manager says I’m connecting to the router at 54Mbit/s.

I’m all out of ideas! if asnyone has any ideas then it would be much appreciated.
